Phenoxyethanol (phenolglycol), ethylene glycol monophenyl ether, and phenoxy propanol are produced through a reaction between phenol and alkylene oxide (ethylene oxide, propylene oxide) and the structure contains aromatic compounds. 

The pi electrons of the aromatic compounds demonstrate properties that differ from those of aliphatic solvents. Confirmed examples of use include as a solvent for ballpoint pen ink and as a degreaser.
